This place is worth visiting just for the dessert! The profiteroles are yummy, but I usually get the tarte tatin (or whatever version of an apple tarte they happen to have that night, actually, you really can't go wrong with any seasonal fruit dessert they have there). The creme anglaise they put on it is always perfect!

My husband and I stumbled in here with our three children, ages 17, 13 and 11. We are from Seattle and were visiting Steamboat for the day. We ordered two types of oysters, pork belly, cassoulet, escargot and octopus for appetizers. Our kids love escargot and they thought it was delicious. I also had the arugula salad which was amazing. For dinner we had venison, duck, coq au vin, salmon, lamb and duck. They were all excellent. My chicken fell off the bone. The lamb was incredible. We shared creme brulee for dessert which looked and tasted beautiful. The staff was very attentive and professional. A good memory for all of us.

Harwigs is simply great. The people, the food and the wines all come together to make for a memorable evening. If you want a special dinner try a night in their wine cellar where they serve a menu and wines to match customized to your tastes. The owner Jamie is a fun host, Mike will find you a great wine and the rest of the staff delivers and evening that will bring you back for more, if we are any indication that is.

Oh now THIS is good food! I wish I had eaten here all 3 nights I was in town. Delicious food! Nice waiter! Beautiful atmosphere!

Dinner night one in town. We originially did not have reservations coming into town because we thought we would be exhausted from traveling. In our airport transfer pamphlet we saw an appetizing ad for 8th street grill but after asking our concierge at the mountain resort as well as the shuttle driver, both suggested Harwigs if you are in the mood for a nice meal and want to pay a similar price. We booked a reservation at Harwigs for an early dinner and had a wonderful meal. I got the oysters which to my total surprise was served on a bed of sea salt instead of ice. That was my one criticism. The oysters only a little bit cold but I prefer my oysters over ice. As for appetizers: Get the french onion soup- wow was it fantastic. The antelope carpaccio was decent but not filling enough for an appetizer. The main courses were great. I got the chicken and my parents got the lamb. The lamb was perfectly tender and the chicken was seared oh so nicely to give it a nice crispy bite. I had the pleasure of speaking with the owner and the whole place felt very ski-town homey. I recommend checking this place out at some point.

The best Steamboat has to offer....a great meal with great wine and excellent service... It doesn't get any better than Harwigs. I have dined here many times and have always had a wonderful experience. The owner is onsite most nights to ensure everything is absolutely perfect. This is the standard the other Steamboat restaurants hope to aspire to... I will be back again and again!

Harwigs is one of my longtime favs in Steamboat. Cozy. Very comprehensive wine and single malt selection. Delicious apps, and super friendly staff. Tonite: single malt from Islay. Oysters. Lamb chops. So good!

This restaurant was a welcome surprise. The menu was interesting and the food was good quality for this quiet little ski town. Service was mediocre on a quiet weekday night, but the most outstanding feature was the knowledgeable and passionate sommelier. He really made for a wonderful experience. Careful though! Some tour books say that Harwigs is the more affordable version of L'apogee, but it has the same menu & prices, just a less formal dining room.

Was very apprehensive at first to try this place. The menu offers some different meals, however Wine Enthusiasts does rate it in it's top 100. So gave it a shot. My boyfriend is a bit of a wine snob and has travelled all over the world.. me not so much, but wanted to find a place to impress him. This did the job! The wine list was extensive as well as having a few ports for me to choose was a bonus in my book. We had the lamb and venison for dinner. Again very nervous as these both can be prepared to the point my dog wouldn't eat. We were very pleased with the preparation of our meals!! Fabulous food! Service was great as well. In a beautiful mountain town, this is a wonderful choice for a special night out.

We walked out of another restaurant and came here. It was everything the other place wasn't. Exceptional, attentive, and entertaining service and outstanding food at every course. A long time standard in Steamboat has not lost it's touch. If you are looking for a high end meal and a delightful night out after a day on the slopes, come here. And we haven't yet had dessert.

Food was outstanding! Everything we eat was amazing and presented beautifully on the plate. Oysters were wonderful, the lobster was equally as good, not to mention the duck...yum! I really enjoyed dining here.

Had a great meal there but the service was very slow. The place was busy and that is probably why so I give them a pass. The wine list is excellent and if you study the list, there are some real jewels to be enjoyed.

We will be making Harwig's a must when ever we are in town. The service was incredible and the food will speak for itself.

My wife and I love Harwig's. The food is reliably excellent. The service is outstanding. And we love the wine list - the proprietor or the Cork Dork are very willing to offer suggestions, which we've found to be well worth taking. And in the subterranean wine cellar, there is a single table, large enough for parties of up to about 10. We took five good friends to the cellar on Saturday night. It was truly memorable. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Amazing. Sums it up in one word. I brought a group of 20 people (from outside Colorado) here for a private party in the Gallery Room. We were greeted immediately with a smile and plenty of marvelous wine. Mike was extremely helpful setting up the party and JJ did an amazing job putting a custom menu together- four courses of simply delicious food. If I were in the area again, I would go here in a heartbeat. Worth the price, great staff, delicious food and just an all around great time. If you're within an hour of Harwigs, do yourself a favor and make the trip to have a meal here.

We had an amazing romatic dinner at Harwigs after a great day on the slopes. Great wine list, great service, and the food was amazing too. I had the french onion soup which was the best french onion soup I have had in years. I ordered the duck which was delish. It was served with some beet side which I would not have normally ordered but I'm glad I tried it. The creme brulee was also amazing. Be sure to make a reservation. I know they had a piano player the night we were there. Also, the bar was pretty packed. I think they had an upstaris area too which may have additional bar/seating. Overall great experience!

Great waitstaff and great food. Always stop here while coming through Steamboat. Probably the best dessert I have had in a long time - frozen hot chocolate - that I will long not forget. We had the gnocchi and gazpacho apps then the lamb for main. Everything was cooked wonderfully and I look forward to my next visit to Harwigs.

We love this place. if you are in Steamboat and want to see where local folks eat, come on over. They have great lamb sliders - these are great. They also have lamb chops, a variety of cheeses, oysters and without a doubt one of the best WINE lists in the whole area. And they dont just have wines, they like wine so they take care of the choices that they keep and share. They have champagne by the glass - to go with the champagne powder :) Call ahead and find out if they are having one of their special wine nights. Sit at the Bar, ask them why the Name Deano is etched into the bar - and enjoy a restaurant that is certain to provide a great meal and terrific service. Jamie, the owner makes everyone feel as though they are a regular. They have a place to eat in the wine cellar and most nights we eat at the bar, because the conversation is lively and it reminds me of the Cheers Bar, except a lot more high end. Try the specials as the Chef puts a tremendous amount of thought into choosing the food from local sources and matching it to the season and the event.

One of steamboats best. Had a great dungeness crab and Colorado peach vichyssoise and an equally well prepared beet and heirloom tomato salad. Entrees included another crab special and. Perfectly prepared grouper. Best wine list in area - multiplicity of regions and prices - we had a nice bite burgundy from chassagne-Montrachet that didn't break the bank and a glass of koppe 10 yr tawny with dessert. Nice ambience and excellent service on a quiet Sunday nite. A goop tier experience

Everything about Harwigs is fabulous. From the service to the food to the incredible wine selection and of course perfectly poured martinis. We loved the scallops on the appetizer menu And the filet was cooked to perfection. The staff has extensive wine knowledge and paired wines with out courses beautifully. Harwigs is wonderful whether you'd like to sit at the bar, enjoy a romantic date in the dining room or host a special occasion in the wine cellar. If you're visiting Steamboat Harwigs is a must.

My husband and I were driving through Steamboat yesterday. I wanted fish and he wanted steak. We stopped at Harwigs. It was an early dinner and they had a very nice happy hour. Half off glass of wines and other drinks. We started off with the special Swordfish Sashimi appetizer, which had crab in the middle and wrapped with cucumber and served with a side of white soy sauce! Excellent! Main entrees: Black Anges Filet served with potatoes confit, chantrelles, asparagus, rose pepper demi cream. Cooked to his perfection, flavorful and the sauce was excellent not heavy. Mero Seabass with herb gnocchi, asparagus, charred lemon truffle buerre blanc. Cooked to my perfection and the sauce was light. Portion sizes were just right for us. We will definintely stop again.

This was a major celebration for us--30 years of marriage. We had high expectations, based on previous Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed in the least. Our server, Aaron, was quite knowledgeable about the menu and specials and guided us to excellent choices. Since he was less familiar with wine, he offered to send the sommelier over to discuss my choice of glasses of wine, a good move. The Spanish white was fabulous, much better than the French Bordeaux I had selected on my own. You can believe the other reviews regarding the french onion soup. This is a standard not to be missed. Aaron said the soup cooks for four days. The stock has the richness and depth of flavor that makes that statement credible. The onions were buttery and the cheese carmelized perfectly. We shared a bowl, no problem. The locally sourced salad greens in the arugula salad were exceptional. I've never had greens so flavorful and tender. The black truffle gnocci, while my least favorite of our choices, was still lovely in its tenderness and lightness. A chili pepper relish gave a slight kick that was welcomed. Entrees of quail and halibut were outstanding. My husband's quail was juicy but not fatty. My halibut was perfectly cooked. Excellent accompanying veggies as well. The molten chocolate dessert with praline ice cream was a splurge well worth it. Overall, we appreciated the amazing service from Aaron and Mike, the sommelier, the friendly hosts, and the dog-friendly atmosphere. We'd come again in a heartbeat.

My boyfriend and I first became aware of Harwigs in Mrs. Harjes's high school French class. She promised if we stuck with her for our French learning needs all four years of high school, she would reward us with a fancy, several-course dinner at L'Apogee, and we could supplement the bill with the change we were fined for speaking English in class. (Apparently this is a lie she tells all her students. I suspect she spends the money on dresses.) We were told to expect fancy waiters, a sommelier, and many, many courses of haute cuisine. The high point of fine dining. Flash forward ten years. Our reservation was for 7PM on a Friday night in the bar area. The hostess asked if we were really sure we wanted to sit out there. The first thing I was struck by was how loud and drunk the people AT the bar were. And there were so many of them, half not even on stools, just crowding around the bar. I got the impression this might be a good place to find cougars. The wine menu is a thick binder full of expensive bottles and lists of scotch. Overwhelmed, I chose a peach ginger cocktail. In the bottom of the glass was the ugliest, most shriveled and brown, turd of lime I had ever seen. Not a big deal, but not fancy either. The waitstaff was more subdued than I had expected, and not as helpful as I hoped. However, the service was fast, attentive, and pleasant. People were constantly bringing out more silverware to us. The food was delicious. We started with dates stuffed with Gorgonzola and wrapped in grilled prosciutto, and I recommend you do too. Salty, sweet and a tiny bit pungent, I could easily stop in again just for those. Then they brought us some bread with whipped butter salted with black salt. Pretty. We ordered escargot, a lamb slider, and gnocchi next. My boyfriend liked the gnocchi best, and it was a pretty good sized serving. The lamb slider was my favorite, not complicated, just tasty. The escargot was just how it should be. For our main course we shared the crispy duck and a side of bacon wrapped quail. The duck was wonderful, juicy and perfect. The quail stuffing was nicely paired with pumpkin puree. I was open to the espresso foam on the side, but in the end it was unnecessary and silly. We got two desserts and a cup of coffee to finish off the night. Don't waste your time trying the chocolate hazelnut cake; the toffee pudding is where it's at. We will return to Harwigs, and when we do I think we shall sit far away from the hustle and bustle of the bar. I will ask more questions and we will try a special. Great dining expedience.

We had a terrific meal here. Lamb for the man, duck for me. Couldn't find a thing wrong with either one! Wine list was very pricey, but we splurged and enjoyed it very much. Creme Brulee was enjoyed by the man......me, if was iffy on it. Thanks to Converse for his good service. Try this next time your in Steamboat.

Rudest waiters ever!! When they poured us the "wrong" wine, they acted like it was our fault! We have been eating here for over 10 years, but will NEVER EVER return!!!

This place was wonderful! The wait staff was quick and friendly, the food was prompt and absolutely delicious. The place was beautiful and subtle in design and decoration and the sammelier was both passionate and knowledgable with his recommendations. We we definitely go back.

Heed the bad reviews! This is the second bad meal we've had here and we will not be going back again. The food takes forever to get to your table and is cold when it gets there. The vegetables on the plate were dirty (specially the mushrooms, when you bit into them you got a mouthfull of dirt!) and not cleaned properly. The men's restroom was outdated and dirty with ice in the urnal. In the woman's restroom, there was a plugged toilet with poop in it. Honestly this place does NOT deserve all the good reviews on here and I don't how it stays in business. Probably because of all the booze they sell, it certainly isn't because of the sub-par food or the tacky decor.

I wish I could give zero stars. We made reservations three weeks in advance for Thanksgiving and were told that they had lost it and that there was no availability. Aside from offering us a seat at the bar, the hostess shrugged and said 'nothing we can do' as a means of apology. Really ruined our Thanksgiving and is totally unacceptable from a restaurant that charges high prices and claims to be fine dining.

We made a Saturday night reservation here based on the positive reviews. When we arrived, the hostess seemed surprised to see us, and more than a little confused/clueless. Once she realized we had actually made a reservation, she took us to the smallest table (or booth) tucked into a corner, close to another four-top. Service was a little slow, and I thought it was weird that they rationed bread out piece-by-piece but brought out a pot of salted butter (which was delicious) as if you were going to eat an entire loaf of bread. We each ordered cocktails which took forever to arrive, even though the place wasn't all that busy. The waitress stopped by several times after our drink order to check on us, but it wasn't until the fourth time (about 20 minutes later) that she actually took our orders - and then she only seemed interested in taking our appetizer and salad/soup orders. Thinking we should probably order our entrees too (rather than waiting until after we'd receive and finish the appetizer and soup), we stopped her from walking away and asked her to course out the appetizer, soup, and entrees accordingly. The food itself was okay, but lukewarm when it reached the table. They were out of the halibut, but served the same dish with grouper instead (my order). The steaks ordered seemed slightly overcooked and lacked the flavor you would expect in this environment and at this price point. What was frustrating was that the table next to us, a four-top, monopolized the servers' attention consistently, then had multiple visitors (including wait staff and management) stand by their table to chat for 5-15 minutes at a time. Normally I wouldn't mind this, but these visitors would stand between our tables with their backs to us, blocking us from getting up if needed, and the wait staff couldn't serve us because we were sandwiched into a corner with either people or walls on all sides. We had to wait 15 minutes before we could get up to leave once we were finished because of this.

Service was excellent. Artichoke and wild mushroom soup was a bit bland, escargot was very good, elk carpaccio was fair. Venison entree was very good, chicken entree was also very good, special for the night was rabbit, it was just fair. Sticky toffee desert was excellent, creme brûlée was burnt on top (sugar was burnt beyond what it should be). Overall experience was very good, staff was very friendly and very attentive.

Excellent food, excellent service, uniquely broad wine & liquor list (four pages of single malt scotches!). We had escargot, which was excellent, and the soup of the day, also excellent, with the duck - was magnificently prepared. Old-style wood and old photos make a great ambience. This is my choice for high-end dining in Steamboat. (Also tried Diva: meh.)

This restaurant is very good on food and wine selection. A bit pricy but worth it. We celebrated my daughters last spring break and the evening was wonderful. My husbands crispy duck was the best entree but the tenderloin, venison and fish selection were all very nicely prepared. Dessert selection was also very nice. We will definitely return.

Holy Cow, we had another sweet weekend of food and drinks with Harwigs. The staff was unbelievably accommodating for our group of 10. The waiter nailed it on so many fronts. Handled the table of adults, and children like a pro. They make us feel like family every time. Thanks Harwigs!

AWESOME! I went her for a special dinner with my dad. We had a FABULOUS meal and a GREAT time. Awesome Bordeaux wines. Don't bother with the super expensive ones either. The lower priced ones must have been very carefully selected because they were ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING! I love love love good Bordeaux wines too! Lagostina gnocchi was embarrassingly licking the sauce up of the plate delicious. The fish I had was cooked to perfection - my dad's said his lamb chops were great. Heirloom tomato salad = must try. How do they even get such good tomatoes in Steamboat in the dead of winter? Actually, scratch that. Who cares? Just order them! Not a morsel of food or a drop of sauce left on our plates. Harwigs isn't inexpensive but well worth the money for a special dinner or if you are in the mood for some bomb ass French food! And if you are skiing on a vacation what's an extra hundo? That's the cost of ONE lift ticket on the mountain. And you worked hard skiing in the champagne powder. You deserve it.

We saw the advertised drink specials for happy hour earlier in the day so came back by on Friday during the Art Walk. We were told we couldn't get a drink as we had no reservation and it was a busy night due to the Art Walk. What bar prevents customers from getting a drink?

What a fabulous evening. Please remember to order the chanterelle mushrooms in any incarnation they are serving them if they still have the fresh ones available! Venison, rabbit, sea bass, are all intensely great. Jamie and JJ are master chefs. Service was impeccable. Thank you to all!

had a great time at their happy hour. Enjoyed their wine quite a bit. In a town like Steamboat it's hard to find a good glass of wine at a decent price, which they do offer. The food was delish and the waitstaff very knowledgeable. Even the chef popped out to check on the table. That's service, on a Tuesday night. Highly recommend.

The lamb chops are one of the best cuts of meat I've ever had. This was an all around great experience. A bit expensive with all the drinks, but that's my fault! ;) Well done.

Hands down the best fine dining we have ever had in Steamboat! Collins (the guy behind the bar) was an excellent bar-tender/server. He went above and beyond and gave us the 'local' scoop or where to go and what to do while we're here. ...and the food, AMAZING!!!!

  • Heather S.

I LOVE Harwigs. Their happy hour is awesome. But, you'll always get a seat at the bar after happy hour. Collins, Jack and Mike will take care of you. And, the food's awesome. Scallops, French onion soup, lamb sliders, etc. You won't be disappointed.

As someone who lives in town, it's easy to get sick of over-priced, low-quality food geared towards tourists. Harwigs is nothing like that. The fine dining vibe feels authentic and real, the service is absolutely on point, and the dishes are phenomenal in all aspects--flavor, freshness, and presentation. Happy hour dollar oysters are my personal favorite, as are the $7 filthy martinis whipped up by Collins, the sexy tattooed bartender. If you're only in town a short while, make sure you don't miss the opportunity to try this place, you won't be disappointed.

After a day of being up on the mountain my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to have a nice relaxing dinner. We spotted Hargwig's L'Apogee and decided to give it a try. I really must say that we enjoyed every bit about this place. As we walked in we were warmly greeted by the maître d, who then had us seated promptly. After we were seated it was just outstanding service throughout. The maître d' came back around to check on us which was pleasantly unexpected. It seems like these days people forget the small details that are surely not overlooked here. The boyfriend was in the mood for mussels so we were happy to see they did have them on the menu. We ordered that as our fist course and it was perfection. The mussels were fresh and flavorful cooked in a tomato based broth. I was very content for his inclination of having mussels. These were wonderful, light, and fresh. I'd like to also mention that they have a pretty impressive wine menu. For our second course we had the Lamb and the Duck. They were both cooked perfectly. The lamb was cooked, as requested, medium rare. Every bite just was so packed with flavor and melted in your mouth. It was served with asparagus and risotto that were also no neglected. His Duck was cooked spot on. The breast was tender and juicy and the outside of it was crispy. I only had a bite of his but it was very well done. The salad/compote it sat on was also very fresh an combined perfectly with citrus reduction it was paired with. Finally we ended up ordering the bread pudding which was also fantastic. Not only did the food have an elegant presentation, but it's flavor matched the delivery equally. We enjoyed every bit from our wine to the service.

If you visit Steamboat, you must eat at Harwigs. My girlfriend and I went their on a date night while in Steambaot for the week. As soon as we stepped inside, we greeted and sat. They suggested a great bottle of wine and a cheese plate to go with it. The dinner menu had some fun choices and was very excellent. Next time I visit Steamboat, I will be dining at Harwigs.

A great place to go for a nice dinner on vacation! Came here with a group of 4. The service was excellent and everyone enjoyed the food. For our entrees we ordered the filet, duck, pork and lobster and all were excellent. Be sure to confirm your reservation by phone if using OpenTable! We received a confirmation email but did not confirm by phone and our reservation was cancelled. Fortunately, we were trying to get a table at 9pm so they were able to seat us.
